There is also no bingo, casino or glitzy entertainment. On any of the ships in the Star Clipper line, you will find the cabins are not as big or luxurious as a traditional cruise ship, the food is not as good or as plentiful and are no formal dress up functions. There are pros and cons of both options which I will not go into here, but if you are not absolutely certain that being on a real sailboat is of the upmost importance, you may want to think twice about sailing with Star Clippers. When deciding to go on a cruise, one of the major decisions a person has to make, other than the destination, is if you want a traditional cruise ship or a sailing vessel. I wanted to write a review of our latest sailing experience aboard the Royal Clipper, and share some of my observations and comparisons with the other ships of the line and with other types of cruises. My husband and I own our own sailboat in Florida and have chartered sailboats around the world for bareboat experiences. We have also sailed on the sister ships Star Flyer and Star Clipper and have cruised with them in Thailand, Tahiti, Greece & Turkey and the Caribbean out of Barbados. This cruise is our 5th on Star Clippers and the second time we have sailed on the Royal Clipper. Let me say right from the start that I am a big fan of the Star Clippers sailing experience. I wrote this review then.I will attach it here so you can read it: Having to leave at the end of the cruise. I guess after 4 sailing cruise you could say we really enjoyed it. We have also sailed on The Windspirit and The Windsurf"( is a similar experience. She looks like a beautiful ship and we will sail on her someday. and also in the Caribbean where The Royal Clipper was docked across from us. There was some entertainment every night, but of course the larger ships have more shows and restaurants. By the 2nd-3rd day they all knew you by name. All of the crew were efficient and courteous. Our cabin was very nice and kept immaculate. Wait until you see the lines for those 2000 passenger ships. We met people from all over the world and the food was outstanding.īecause it's only a couple hundred people, getting on & off was relatively easy and quick. Flat or low heeled shoes are the best because it is a sailing ship.ĭining was at larger tables anytime within a couple hours time. For me it was nice pants outfits and a casual dress here & there. I think my husband wore a sport coat once or twice, but golf polos were the norm. We liked the resort wear casual feeling instead of having to dress for dinner. We loved the movement of the ship and the quiet nights with all the stars-you'll never get that on a large cruise ship. It's a real sailing ship and being on deck was great. Obviously you're not going to miss the sailing from the dock, what I meant is that when they hoist the sails and play some wonderful classical music on the deck it is quite a show. I was interrupted so I didn't get to finish.
